Programs

Adult art classes:  The Art Studios offers 10 to 12 week classes in 3 sessions per year and in many forms of art-making including drawing, mixed media, painting, pottery and printmaking.

Youth and Young Adult Group:  In two sessions a year of 10 to 12 classes each, participants aged 16 to 25 enjoy learning art skills while connecting with their peers. Subjects taught include ceramics, painting, mixed media and more. The classes run after 4:00 pm so that high school students can attend and are provided with bus fare and snacks. Clients in this program have gone on to volunteer as assistants in classes, join the regular Art Studios program, attended art or other schools, and sell their artwork.

Art and Creativity: This class is relaxed and caters to all levels of abilities and includes older adults.  Breaking into song, telling jokes while painting makes for a good class.  “For a bunch of depressed people, we sure do laugh a lot.  I look forward to it all week.  We have a hoot.”

Workshops:  Throughout the year, The Art Studios offers group workshops on canvas stretching, knitting, matting, sculpture and more.

Open studio:  Between scheduled classes, The Art Studios opens the studio for members to work on their own projects.  It is free, supplies are included and it is a fun break for our members to drop in. Vancouver Recovery Through Art also runs Saturday Open Studio for clients who have ‘graduated’ from The Art Studios.
